2020-08-15 Portland DA

Maybe it was always the case, but I feel less informed about the state of the nation than I used to be. Gleaning from the people I watch on twitter it looks like lots of rioting and anarchy in the big cities. I watched the new Portland DA interviewed on a communist Youtube show from last month before he took office. He pushed back on none of the utopian fantasy proffered. In his mind the rioters are misguided protesters at worst, and Trump is Hitler. He was very confident in his understanding. His history was he taught public school a couple years in New Orleans, then worked as an assistant prosecutor, but became disillusioned and quit to work as a lawyer for a prison reform organization. This last May he ran for DA and won with 70% of the vote. He was supposed to take office in December, but the previous DA abandoned ship, so now he is running the show.

I am astonished that the population is so committed to progressive politics that they are turning a blind eye to the rioters and their enablers in government.
