PlayStation buttons: am I taking crazy pills

Nintendo set the standard, buttons are set at A (→) B (↓) X (↑) Y (←).

Let’s say these are buttons 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Now look at the PS buttons, how many lines are used to draw the symbols?

○ (→) ⨉ (↓) △ (↑) □ (←)

The circle is one line, the “x” is two lines, triangle three, and square is four lines. So it seems to me these are the same as the 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the Nintendo.

And yet, for some reason they are swapped around and don’t match the logic which the symbols suggest to me.

Am I taking crazy pills?
