Peopleport

The Peopleport is the first livable structure we have built in the forest so far. It is called "Peopleport" because it is made out of a carport, but contains people instead of cars... It will contain people of human, canine, and feline types.

It consists of a ShelterLogic carport on a wooden platform. I like this particular carport because it has a cathedral-style ceiling, opening up possibilities for a loft for added bedding/storage.

Groundscrews are used to anchor the platform to the uneven ground. Getting them lined up and level was some challenge but ultimately easier than dealing with concrete.

You may notice the gap between the doors is larger at the bottom, that will be fixed once I jack the center of the floor up

I also need to wire the top wood beam to the frame of the tent because it sags in the middle and can make it harder to move the doors

The "rail" system is frankenstein'd because actual sliding glass door rails are stupidly expensive. I got these shower sliding door wheel things, they are pretty small. I drilled holes at the bottom of the sliding doors, put them down there with M5 bolts and nuts, 3 per door

It's so nice to not have that dumb flap anymore, going in and out is much easier, too

Though now, the little step I built is in the wrong place, I will want to make a full-width front step where the doors open. Dogs only keep getting older and will need it before too long.

I also need to tape down the side zipper flaps to the windows, make it more bugtight

I cut 2x4 at a 20 degree angle and fit it to the front of the wood beam on the outside, I will attach maybe 3 or 4 feet length of some sort of roof material to make an awning

Finally, I will eventually need to staple down the old flap to that 20 degree angled 2x4 so that drips coming down go away from the doorway and not soak the level wood

Insights

Groundscrews are good

Nice to watch fireflies outside the doors when falling asleep

Screen doors still needed for ventilation during Summer

Air-Conditioned office-pod may be necessary for Summer

My gut that told me there would be some sagging in the middle of the floor was correct
