I told you so

20 aug 2020

it's been months since i've posted anything here. life gets in the way, as jeff goldblum once kind of sounded like he said if you listen at low volume.

i'll be back at school soon, and there i'll probably have a lot more time to work on this. i've had plenty of ideas for posts as i sit at work, idly, not allowed to touch my phone. many are in the vein of what i had before. many are about other topics entirely. the former will probably have to be compressed into one capper on that entire string of posts, given that work is over with for the summer.

in the meantime, it is commie.space, after all...

I'm running into my new favorite vote Biden argument, which is that we need to vote Biden because if he wins, the libs will see how wrong and silly they were for voting for Biden, because they'll suddenly realize nothing has changed since he got elected and all of society's problems have remained. And I'm seeing this one everywhere now, and I have to wonder if (beyond everything else about it) it has to do with how many baby socialists exist now who got interested in leftism in the last four years, and don't know what it looks like when a republican white house turns into a democrat one? Like a good chunk of the left now was either too young or not politically inclined at the time to remember when Obama took office, and suddenly all of society's problems disappeared and we were back on track. And while I was like 8 at the time, I was still keenly aware of this because I grew up in a conservative household so I remember watching it happen.

When Biden wins, Trump will have been a mere pothole on the road to the end of history, and suddenly the "how to convert libs" problem morphs from "how do I convince them societal problems are systemic and independent of the particular dude sleeping in the white house" into "how to I convince them there are societal problems".

At the moment, these radlibs can shoot the shit with libs about how bad Trump is, because they're all against him, but do they expect it to suddenly get easier to convince them that liberalism isn't good when they're not even on the same team anymore?

I brought this up to a radlib going off at me on twitter and their response was to ask me why I don't just vote for Biden so that when Biden wins, I can tell them "I told you so" and it will convince them that voting Biden doesn't draw anyone to socialism. What the fuck?

Yes, I'm going to vote Biden so that when he wins I can brag to you about how bad an idea it was to vote for Biden. Next up, I'm going to piss on the third rail to really show all the people who think pissing on the third rail is a good idea that it's actually a colossally bad one. I sure am showing them. Look at what a mistake I'm making right now. They're really gonna learn their lesson from this one by jove.

Can't socdems just grow up?
