lmao i have covid

01/14/21

hey guys, by golly it's been a while since i updated this place, huh? well i'm back. just got back from school. i'm home for 9 more days because i have covid. just got the test back last night and had to drive home. passed two tests in the four days before that so it must have been lying dormant.

overnight last night i developed a new superpower, which is the inability to distinguish between a vodka water bottle and a water water bottle, which i'm actually very happy about. my taste is so thoroughly rekt that the taste of vodka straight is _almost_ that of water. this is a positive development.

might be updating this more now as a result, might not. probably will as symptoms do or do not present themselves.

frankly, i _am_ immune compromised. i'll just come out and say it because whatever: i have (what a gi doc once called "severe") crohn's disease and take humira (it totally fixes my symptoms, simple mesalamine didn't; objectively funny that it cost $93000 this year before insurance). so we'll see, maybe i'll get worse and just fully die here. in the meantime my only symptom is an ability to get drunk shockingly fast literally whenever i want without any of the downsides or any need for chaser because i literally can't smell or taste vodka.

meanwhile im home and my parents, both in their sixties with health problems of their own won't take it seriously. my mom keeps coming into the room i'm isolating in and telling me i don't need to wear a mask around her and trying to hug me. i was trying to tell her to stop earlier when she told me she hadn't been able to smell or taste anything since two days ago. i got home last night. i went to school 5 days ago. i had covid prior to going to school, and i passed the first two tests i had to take because it was early in the infection or it was dormant or something, i guess. why the actual fuck didn't my mom warn me she had symptoms?

there are two fun conclusions here: 1) due to my mom's symptoms arising several days earlier than mine, i can only assume she gave it to me, especially since i was quarantining for a week before going back to school and she was going out and shopping and stuff, and 2) if i (and my roommate, who ALSO tested positive only on the last test and ALSO had to go home and ALSO had a family member he has just today learned has been having symptoms since before he got back home -- thank god, otherwise i'd feel bad for probably being the one to infect him, but it's likely he actually came here with it too) didn't test positive until the day of the last test, there could easily be people on campus whose covid will lie dormant literally just one day extra and who would pass the last test and who are probably walking around right now spreading it. oh yeah, i didn't mention that did i? everyone on campus was quarantined to their rooms until a couple hours after that last test came back and those of us who were positive got sent home. so that isn't gonna work.
