SpaceBeans CGI support is almost ready

Posted Thu 15 Jul, 2021.

I think the code that adds classic CGI support may be ready, but I still have to write some more tests to prove it.

I commented here a few weeks ago that I wasn't sure I had chosen the right technology for the service, referring to Akka Stream, but there may be another thing as well: this feels pretty much like work!

I mean, that's what I'm currently doing for a living: I write Scala microservices. Although I don't use Akka Streams, and the point of using it in this service was to learn more about it, there's something about writing tests that is cathartic. It is hard to get started, but once I have some momentum, I could go for hours and I don't mind doing it. But shouldn't I do something different in my free time?

Anyway, I will finish eventually and there will be a release; first after moving the project to GitLab, although it will be available in Gemini as well:

SpaceBeans Gemini Server

And then I think I may write some CGIs in Python, for a change, before thinking what will be next (if anything, even if I will continue using the server and keep supporting it). Not sure what, or if it will be useful, but using Station has been very inspiring, go and check it out! This is my user:
