Bramley: build log (introduction)

I want to create a small handheld device for taking notes and playing games. Something with personality - like a Palm Pilot, Gameboy or Walkman. It's not to replace my phone - hell, it may not even be networked - I just want something that's fun to use.

This is my build log: a series of posts documenting each step and my thoughts along the way. Here's a sneak preview of what I've built so far:
