I want to talk about tv today.

I’ve been watching curb your enthusiasm but i have to pause it all the time to cringe it is so funny but i am not strong enough for the evil mind of Larry David. So after watching a bunch of that i went to rewatch Patriot on Amazon Prime. This is the show i want to talk about.

I can’t recall any other media that really resonates with me in this exact way. I feel this show in my stomach. It’s about a US intelligence officer trying to deliver some money to influence an Iranian election. And he’s fucked up from a previous job that went bad and just wants to come home but his dad is his boss and needs him to do this job. So he’s living in Amsterdam writing folk music and then he has to go undercover as a manufacturing engineer for a piping company and the job is just supposed to be to go deliver a bag of money in Luxembourg but everything keeps getting fucked up and gets more complicated and stressful. And he just buries it all and tries to get it done. It’s a very funny show but this guy (John) is just oozing this palpable sadness across the whole thing. And he’s singing at open mics revealing confidential information in his songs and his coworkers are being weird. The dad from that 70s show is his boss and hates him. The show is about: Everything is fucked up and it’s wearing you down and you just need a break but you have to do this one last thing first but that one last thing just keeps dragging on meanwhile you’re falling apart. And it’s about family and responsibility and growing to love your weird asshole boss. It’s sweet and it makes me cry on both ends. And it has some of my favorite folk songs in it. It feels like it was made for me to enjoy and I’m glad to be watching it again.

I like watching tv.
