I’m reading Brandon Sanderson in between dipping into Krasznahorkai and it’s such a funny pair of things to juxtapose. On one hand you get a guy obsessing over a Noh mask and meditation on art. And then on the other there’s….whatever is happening in Mistborn. Entertaining though.

One thing I should make clear is that I am a proud snob.

RIP Richard Serra. I think I've been reduced to stunned silence and tears by two artists - Rothko and Serra. Both their work made me think of smallness and possibility all at the same time. Serra's works were meditations with the tangible, ruminations on the unknowable. I loved it, and forever will.

A few of my friends have gotten married over the past couple of years, and for each one, I’ve written a poem. I've found it a useful exercise in reflection and gratitude to distill my relationship with my friend(s) both in and of themselves and within their own relationship, and my relationship to their relationship. I don't hope for much of it, and to be honest, the poems often fall out of me and onto a sticky note or my notes app under cover of darkness a week or two before the wedding. I have generally emailed out these poems and closed the application immediately, like submitting a job application with particularly high levels of expectation and anxiety. I don't know why -- these people are my friends, after all! If they don't like the poem, they'd still appreciate the thought, I think.

I am not a particularly strong speaker. I umm and uhh, I lose track of where I am in a sentence, and my sentences often do not end and begin in a typical fashion, instead colliding into each other with varying levels of force and cohesion. Further, talking about love and friendship is awkward, prone to blushing and my voice tends to crack and my eyes tend to fill. Writing about it is much easier, and clearer. Putting thoughts down onto paper (or screen) I can capture an emotion and evoke a memory more than mere speech. This is the essence of poetry to me. It provides a moment of quiet when everything feels too loud, all the time. A tiny meditation that I can share with those I love, and maybe those that I don't yet know.

My body is still fully adjusted to the time change. I feel like last year it was a big easier. This week feels like a big giant waste.

Dealing with some serious miscommunication issues with my parents. Would love to figure out a way to not have parents (especially my father) jump to conclusions. Pretty clear where I get it from!

Took dogs for a walk at sunrise. Nice and calm out, very few cars. I have become very sensitive to car noise recently. Just how loud they are. A freshly paved road seemed to dampen the sound relatively well but even the freshest pavement around here is starting to deteriorate and so the cars are loud loud loud. Not to mention the muffler, the snap crackle pops, and especially the godawful bmw m- or MB Amg cars. I think I would like to live somewhere bustling but quiet - bike and foot traffic mostly.

I got a beautiful Soviet-made Raketa watch for 25 bucks from eBay. Smelled kinda funky so airing it out for a few days. Works pretty well, doesn’t seem to lose time to a significant degree and seems to run for most of a day upon winding.

Also have an HMT Janata with Urdu dial coming in the next couple weeks. I’m gonna have to show my dad. I know he used to wear HMT but I wonder if he had this model or something else
