CFIDO

This is a collection of information related to CFIDO, the first regularly accessed bridge between China and the outside world in the early days of dial-up bulletin boards.

Great Wall, a server located in Beijing, became the first FidoNet node on the Chinese mainland in 1991. By 1992, it merged with Hand-in-Hand, a node in Shantou, to form CFIDO. When the Internet became a thing, the BBS maintained a presence at www.cfido.com.

The network is usually only remembered today for its notable node operators: Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi, Ma Huateng, founder of Tencent, and Qiu Bojun, founder of Kingsoft.

CFIDO final node list

The server began publishing digital magazines in ZIP format in 1997. A few are archived here and converted to Unicode for display on modern hardware.
