Yikes! Louis Rossman butchers a Mac on YouTube...

I like Rossman. He's done a lot of good work fighting for the Right to Repair, and his ongoing fight with New York City bureaucracy (even years after he moved to Texas or Florida) is truly amusing (and familiar).

And no doubt he is technically very knowlegeable and, usually, good at diagnosing and fixing electronics. He has been very good at disseminating information about Mac repair, something that Apple clearly does not want.

But he is one of those guys who likes to blab a lot. You've seen those guys from Brooklyn, lots of handwaving, lots of fuckin' this and that. As we now know, people can't really multitask, an he is no exception...

While blabbing about how Apple sucks, he solders an SMD chip under a microscope in a clearly wrong position. You can see a row of pads next to it, a row of pads that the chip should be soldered to, but he totally misplaces it.

He then announces that the Mac is unfixable, and moralizes about Apples shoddy policies some more.

Sadly I see more and more such content, often from people I admire. Rushing to keep videos coming to feed the algorithm and make more money, people don't bother watching their own content carefully enough to remove embarrassing errors.

I respect what Louis Rossman has done for Right to Repair, but I've never been able to really enjoy his videos. He's just too brash and opinionated for my tastes, even if I agree with a lot of his opinions!

Also, more recently he has done very few repair videos and has mostly transitioned to pure political commentary. Not my favorite genre.

@Ruby_Witch: yeah, he is mostly philosphizing and ranting, and doesn't really have the depth to pull it off. I hate to come off as elitist -- I am a high-school dropout myself, but I don't get a sense that Rossman reads a lot, if you know what I mean.

He reminds me of the dog character on BoJack Horseman. He is very functional, but when a squirrel runs by, he is still a dog.

But even if I can't sit through an entire video most of the time, it is still a guilty plesure of mine.

Schematics or die! Louis Rossmann do little repair videos because of inacessible parts and lack of schematics. Provide some.
