I think I've been approaching this Bubble notification suppression the wrong way. What I actually want is for all the enabled types to be emitted, so they can be grouped/combined together in a smarter way when rendering.

For starters, I'll set up proper priority tiers for the notification types and ensure that from each grouping only the highest priority one is actually shown. The others can be silently discarded.

Also, the flags determining which notifications you have enabled weren't checked half the time, so there's that, too. 😅

I think of notifications like a recommendation engine. "Based on what I know about you, here is a post you might like!" If I am the kind of person who likes to visit each section of your site seperately and intentionally then I might prefer not to have the notifications rolled up to the top level of the site. I might prefer to have them split out per section. I guard my attention span very jealously. :-) A useful alternative would be (for example) a list of the 5 most recent posts I have commented on, for me to visit if I feel like it. But I realize I am a bit of an edge case in most things.

I think it's a good idea to add some settings to reduce the "urgency" of the notifications. I suppose it's polite to follow up on @-mentions about you, or when someone comments directly to your post, but many of the other notifications shouldn't require immediate attention.
