Very true! It feels like people don't talk about this sort of thing often enough. Everyone's got an 'inner editor', though, and how much said editor slows you down is something you should think about.


Me, it's an absolute slog if I try to edit and write at the same time. The inner editor is too critical. I've gotten to the point where, if I have a deadline, I write everything in Acme as my text editor and try not to let myself even hit backspace.


When the text is written, I can pipe it to `fmt`, spell check, and make corrections easily enough. But that's after there's something substantial there to edit.


For other things, Emacs and editing while writing are probably fine.
