I hate avatars. Why do I have to have an avatar, a picture that represents my face? I wish there would be an option to not use avatars on the corporate web. I just don't want to see them. I'm getting force to upload one and if I'm not, they will come up with a default one or even worse, one of those generated identicons.

It doesn't need to be your face necessarily.
Use a flower or something instead
generated identicons are kinda the industry response to your original problem... make default profile images that are unique.
you'll always be a ball of twine to me.
It could be anything you want, it doesn't need to be your face.
