i think normally it should not be like that. a person should have time for having nothing to do, to have thoughts, ideas(that's why ideas come at shower time), or to tinker with own setups, tests, projects.
if one has no time it means something is wrong. well, i am often in that situation myself, just saying that it is not normality. or should not be.

I take a deep breath and remind myself to keep my expectations realistic. People are generally understanding when you have to push-back a deadline; nobody is expecting me to be Superman.
If someone is expecting you to do the impossible, that's a *them* problem.
