which of these linux clients you prefer?

(i also added web software that can be used under linux, though probably it was better to create separate poll for that).

I don't think it's really that usable anymore (the only front-end for it I'm aware of is Empathy, which AFAIK is long dead), but I'd like to put in a special mention for Telepathy. It is (was?) a DBus specification for interfacing with and managing chat backends that had an implementation for XMPP.

I've only heard of pidgin and I haven't used it in well over a decade

which client do you use?

oh, interesting, why did you get notified? probably because you follow the subspace? eh, didn't think about having the option, since... let's say there is a question 'which photographic film do you use have in your camera?', and why would anyone who doesn't shoot film photos respond? or which drone do u own? it felt natural to me that if you don't fly drones, why would you reply? i mean then any question about xmpp - 'which xep draft for stickers you like more' would need to have option about not using xmpp, and also not needing stickers.

@textmonger I think everyone is opted into updates for polls. didn't look for a setting yet to turn this off.

I love XMPP. People keep trying to make me use Matrix instead but it’s just such a cludge. I find XMPP much easier to use and understand.

I am currently using basically all tools, XMPP, matrix, Discord, also occasionally others like nostr

i failed to use matrix so far. all the clients were fat and slow, and i don't like to use something i don't host, my friend hosts a matrix server, and he had to disable federation from almost all hosts because his hard disk space doesn't allow it, some images and data gets federated from other instances.

Kind of mindblowing how high pidgin is up. As someone who loves pidgin, it is without a doubt, at this point, the same thing as Psi+ but worse in almost every possible way. It is barely usable as a modern XMPP client. It cannot handle syncing messages, E2E encryption, serving notifications, file/image sharing over http (literally one of the most standard XMPP features at this point), and so much more that you would expect, almost all of which, Psi+ does right out of the box. Pidgin is a darling for sure, but it is definitely not preferable.

i use pidgin and dino. for me the main problem of pidgin is absence of omemo encryption. btw i am ok with otr, but majority of people uses omemo. thats why it is a problem, they often dont even know how to disable it, so i use dino just for omemo.

other features like http upload, well, i think should be thought of better. http_upload makes all the clients' ips available. i think xmpp server on receiving side had to be obliged to cache the image and provide the cached version to its clients. but that wont work if the message is e2e encrypted. so anyway for just file exchange i like the old way which pidgin support better.

I like Conversations and Cheogram in Android. XMPP is my favorite way to communicate. Wish more people would adopt it.

right now again, i am using only dino and pidgin. i wish pidgin had omemo, my friends write me with omemo enabled. i tried lurch: pidgin omemo plugin, but i thitk it not only not worked, but also corrupted m my pep storage on the server, and i had to reset my keys.

on maemo-leste which is over devuan chimaera i have older dino: it is buggy and what i write with omemo on other clients it ismnot able to decrypt and other clients are not able to decrypt what was sent by it.

similar problem i have with shmoose: sailfish xmpp client. even worse: omemo mostly doesnt work. the dev wrote that de doesnt understand why, but sending several unencrypted messages prior to enabling omemo sometimes helps.
