A couple of folk albums from Santa Cruz

Yesterday I visited Santa Cruz, CA on the last leg of our holiday's vacation. We stopped by a childhood favorite Streetlight Records. I was pleased to find the old place had a Local Artists section. Below are excerpts from a pair of albums I left with, and links the artists' web pages.

Chicken Mama - In the Advocate (2017)

Bandcamp

> This album was recorded live in its entirety in the goose pen of the Advocate Tree in the Forest of Nisene Marks, Aptos, California, in January 2016. The Advocate Tree was a 1,000 year old redwood tree, 263 feet tall with a circumference of 45 feet. After storms uprooted her in January of 2017, the artists felt compelled to publicly share the recordings. This release celebrates the life of a tree that was saved from logging long enough to fall in its own time, as nature saw fit.

Wild Iris - Wild Iris (2016)

Bandcamp

> Wild Iris is an acoustic mix of musical genres. Guitarist Bryan Shelton's folksy picking style along with Kate Mullikin's evocative lyrics and smokey vocals make their duo a fresh listening experience.

P.S.

I'm not such a practiced writer, so please excuse my lack of editorial. I wanted to share a couple of nice things I found, that is all.
