Robopon! Has anyone played these games? They were contemporaries with Pokemon but did not get nearly as much attention. We only got "Sun Version" in the US (not sure why they didn't bring Star over at the same time), but I've recently gotten both Sun and Star in Japanese. I had the English one as as kid but it's too expensive to buy again now lol. Would love to hear if anyone has any memories of this game.

Robopon has a lot of weird mechanics to it...it kind of has a weird mini business sim inside of it? You inherit a company from your grandpa and can upgrade it over the game. It also has weird hardware, it's a very long cart that has a removable battery, because it had "GB Kiss" technology. Basically, Hudson made an infrared system for gameboy sadly RIGHT before the GBC came out and had it built in. Aside from unlocking stuff in game with IR, GB Kiss also had weird stuff like a whole modem you could use with some Hudson games to get new levels and whatnot. Strange stuff!

I thought I had played this, but I was thinking of 携帯電獣テレファング. That one has some weird elements as well. Great music, though! Maybe I should check out Robopon..

@marissa Telefang is fantastic, I originally played it as the "Pokemon Jade/Diamond" bootlegs but I've recently started it again in Japanese.

You can have English translations of these at Romhacking. As for IPS files, use MGBA and name the IPS file the same as your ROM but ending in ".ips". If your rom it's named robopon.gbc, name the IPS patch robopon.ips and load the GBC file in MGBA
