after finally giving up on the shell script i was previously using (modified astro) i finally got lagrange, and it's pretty damn good. not too many bugs. good work, the preformatted text looks especially snazzy on the default layout.

though the window does lag heavily when i move it (running the AppImage on Ubuntu 22 if anyone's interested)

The window movement lag seems to be a rather common issue with SDL when running under certain window managers. Unfortunately, I haven't found good workarounds that work everywhere.

The fix would be to use GTK or Qt or some other actual desktop GUI toolkit that behaves well with window management, but that would mean doing a significant rewrite of the entire app UI...
