Just finished updating FreeBSD to patch the SA's revealed yesterday. I went ahead and did a source based update because it's been a long time and I wanted to see how it went. Surprisingly well is how it went. I had never used the `etcupdate` command before, having always used `mergemaster` in the past, and it was a huge improvement. Mergemaster was the most time consuming part of the entire process in years past, requiring the user to individually decide what to do with every file in /etc. The `etcupdate` command by comparison only asks the user what to do if there is an actual conflict.

Anyway, I guess it's been a really long time since I did a source update, because I see that `etcupdate` became part of the system back in 10.0.

heh i remember using etc-update on gentoo, now i think it is replaced by dispatch-conf. and yes, i believe it doesn't ask you if nothing was changed.
