I'm not sure why I decided to watch this movie. I guess Anne Hathaway was the reason?
A 40 year old separated mom of a teenage girl comes across a 24 year old famous guy in a band. The guy gets attracted to this woman and kisses her at her home. The woman can't get that kiss out of her head and travels to New York to meet him at his hotel. The train of physical intimacy takes off but does stop at some unpleasant stations.
I remember seeing only one other movie which depicts romance between a young man and an older woman, The Garden of Words (Kotonoha no Niwa). I think that movie is significantly better than this movie, although I felt that The Idea of You does a nice job in depicting the physical intimacy between Hayes Campbell and Solène. However, the cringe comedy scenes and dialogues and the absence of a natural progression towards attraction makes this movie quite average, maybe even "bad". Oh, and the ending reminded me of Your Name (Kimi no Na Wa).
I hereby rate this movie a 2.5 out of 5.
