2022-07-09 Guestbook Using Titan and Twitch Proxy

AuraGem now has a Guestbook! You can sign the guestbook by editing the page with Titan, using the token "auragemguestbook". Because of the potential for vandalising the guestbook, it is append-only and any edits uploaded that change pre-existing content or contain profanity or slur words will be rejected by the Titan server automatically.

There is also a new proxy for Twitch that allows one to search Twitch for channels, view a channel's VODs, and download or get the link to a VOD. However, because the upload speed for this server is little over 1 MB per second, it is not recommented to download from here. Instead, I will be developing a new project that contains both the YouTube and Twitch proxies so that anybody can host an instance.

Twitch Proxy (WIP)

The purpose behind adding this proxy was, firstly, for my own use, and secondly, to provide a clutter-free, ad-free, tracking-free interface where people can simply download Twitch VODs without all of the other distractions and slowness the web interface provides. I do not intend to recreate the web. My goal is always to provide useful information and data to users within the constraints of gemini's overall purpose and abilities.

While providing services that are gemini-first would be the ideal, there are useful websites that would be impossible to completely replicate because of copyright or licensing issues, or whether the company/individual behind a site would be willing to provide a gemini interface themselves. These types of sites include YouTube, Twitch, Github, Sefaria, Bible sites, etc. For example, because much of the content on Sefaria.org is licensed to Sefaria specifically, that content cannot be replicated, but must be proxied through Sefaria's API, unless one has the means to ask for licenses from each respective company themselves.

If we want to expand the content native to Gemini, we must make Gemini services or self-hostable projects available. A good one would be a self-hostable Git interface for Gemini, that also includes a way for people to post issues and PRs (probably via the Titan protocol). This could easily replace our reliance on Github or Gitlab, etc.
