A suburban ride today, warm weather, but almost entirely feral feathered friends. Flocks of fat Domestic pigeons[1] near all the shops and Common mynas[2] making a constant chatter from the back fences — I can't believe that the reason for an outbreak of these was that someone missed their "singing" and introduced a pair into Canberra! Noisy miners[3] darting around from paperbarks and bottlebrushes, not feral but behaving almost as badly. The one standout exception was the loud and raucous calling of a pair, or a couple of pairs, of Sulphur-crested cockies[4] in the trees in one of the parks.
