2021/0922/1700 — why here?

The cold weather has passed, back to the warm part of spring! I went out for a longer, and more enjoyable, ride this afternoon and along the way rode down the bike path alongside Gardiners creek. Just after the Warrigal road underpass through Markham reserve there's a patch of grass that must be different from all the other grass, I've no idea what is but there are *always* Crested pigeons[1] here, sometimes just one or two, sometimes up to around twenty. Today I think there were ten, strutting around looking self-important and pecking in the grass. They were accompanied by a pair of Black ducks[2] that looked a bit odd out of water and just standing around. There must be something about that patch of grass… I'll stop and investigate one day!
