2021/0918/1100 — froggy

Family walk this morning up to Murrumbeena for a coffee & an explore and poke around the shop fronts, then back along Neerim road and into Boyd park to check on the wildlife. We never quite got to the orchid protecters to see how the greenhoods are going after their flowering a couple of weeks ago, spent all our time out under the trees watching the noisy birds — mostly Noisy miners[1] — chasing each other around in the branches. They didn't seem to be attacking anything else, just shrieking and chasing each other today.

Then up in the tree by the scout hall a solitary Tawny frogmouth[2], beak pointed skywards parallel to the trunk, dead still and ignoring the day-time world. I'm not sure where the others have gone or where they'll nest this year, hopefully I can find it.
