Day and Night

The creation and the experience of an artwork are usually separated by place and time. A work is created, then shown. There can be miles of space and decades of time between these two events. This distance can create a tension between the intention of the artist and the interpretation of a work by the viewer. But what if the place and time of the viewer were somehow incorporated into a work of art? Is that possible and what, if any, impact would it have?

"Day_and_Night" is a generative work that explores this question by incorporating the viewer's place and time into the work itself. This is done by presenting the viewer with a different version of the piece depending on what time of day it is for the viewer (their local time).

When viewed between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, the daylight version of the work will be seen. The nighttime version appears between 7:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
