Obedience

Obedience is one of those virtues not commonly wanted nowadays. It can even be the least wanted one. That's simply because we are being told that we should listen to noone but ourselves, that we are the decisive ones in our lives. Well... In some meanings those probably are true. But to say, that those statements are always true is a grave mistake!

True virtue

Obedience is a true virtue - one that should be desired, and truly respected. It's sometimes confused with weakness or cowardice, yet that is nothing even remotely true! An obedient person is a person truly aware of own knowledge and skills. If someone is obedient that's because he knows, that he doesn't know everything, that he can make a mistake. Therefore he trusts his superiors - since they have a better knowledge of all of the facts, not just his part.

In fact - who is obedient is also wise. Wise, because he knows, that he needs help, and he needs someone to guide him.

Holy obedience

That's of uttermost importance in faith, in realtionship to God. The absolutely most important obedience is obedience towards God.

How can I know what God wants me to do? From the Holy Scripture and from the Tradition. These two are the sources of Revelation. They are both given to Church - that's why I need to listen to Church even if I really think that's me, who's right. If Church says otherwise - the Church is right, because Revelation was given to Church, not to me!

Oh... that one virtue - being Church-obedient is sometimes so unwanted that one may wonder if it's really a virtue. *Yes!* It is! Look at the Saints. They were all obedient! You want to be a Saint? Be obedient!
